The cute question that started it all.

It all began in a restaurant with a simple question: “Daddy, why is the rabbit the animal that takes care of Easter?”

Always quick with humor, I gave back answers for each of the different animals asked about and why they might have issues. This was so much fun. Alyssa never tired of thinking of different animals and delighted in the crazy reasons why they would have all kinds of problems whereas the bunny doesn’t.

That was back in 2016. Probably March. We hadn’t been in the new home all that long. We were all really just getting settled in.

It was so much fun and we talked about it at length for days on end. It came to me this would be a great book idea. How would I do this? I don’t draw well. Certainly not well enough to do much more than story board. I outlined the characters and tried to find some images online. Things to get my ideas across.

As we talked about it with friends and family there were suggestions made. Eventually our next door neighbor suggested her niece.

Esther Wallace seemed to have exactly the ideas I was looking for. She keyed in on our vision and shared some basic drafts. We loved them and I knew we would work well together. I loved her concepts. I knew she appreciated my desire for a classic style. I am not overly fond of the computer heavy and over color saturated style of books that are produced now. They lose the unique character of the brush or pencil stroke in my opinion.
